BODY PAINT

March 18, 2021

Media: Acrylic paint on wallpaper lining
Size: 129cm x 56.5cm
With this piece I wanted to use my body to create art rather than creating art around my body. I applied paint onto myself, t-shirt, and the paper. I then used myself as a paint brush, by printing my figure and moving on the paper to spread the paint and produce abstract and blurred strokes of movements. I used my body, hands, and feet to spread the paint around, I just worked freely and without a plan. I added random colours and just experimented and played around with the paint.
For the end I printed my breasts on the middle of the paper as a final show that this was made by my body. It is not completely obvious what the middle image is, which continues this raw and abstract feel to the work.
Overall, this whole piece was just really therapeutic and calming to produce. It felt good to be free when painting, without an idea of an end goal. It was completely unplanned, and I really like the colours and shapes that were produced. I think the piece has this really energetic and aesthetic feel to it. I think its beautiful that our bodies can create such bold and empowering works of art.
I have always aimed to show how beautiful and impressive the female figure is, and to try and make women feel empowered by their bodies. This performance showed how our bodies are amazing and the audience can see this through the expressive work created. If a figure can create such beautiful work, it must be a beautiful thing itself.
